MUSIC on the GREEN  (MOTG) is the Parish of Esher's musical outreach programme based at Christ Church, our 160 year old church building which overlooks the copious greenery of a beautiful churchyard and the main town green beyond.
There are three main strands to our activities:
* a series of high quality lunchtime concerts on the third Wednesday of each month (excluding the holiday month of August).  Entry is free.  There is a retiring collection, and donations can be gift-aided.  The music itself runs from 1:15 pm for about 40-45 minutes.  The programmes are designed to enable visitors to arrive and leave as they are able, with the running times of each piece given.
* a more substantial evening concert approximately three times a year, roughly once per school term.  Previous concerts have featured the LYRA vocal quartet from St Petersburg; the London Saxophone Choir; a Baroque ‘duel’ involving two harpsichords; jazz and world music ensembles; a gala piano evening; and a themed celebration of St David’s Day featuring Welsh music and readings.
* a magical series of concerts during Holy Week.  Billed as 'Music in the Tower', these evenings of instrumental music and meditative readings take place in the unique and intimate atmosphere of the Tower Room at Christ Church, and have been extremely popular since their inception in 2010.
The aims of MOTG are to promote a wide variety of excellent music, to present music in fresh and engaging ways, and to encourage audiences from Esher and beyond.
Christ Church boasts an outstanding pipe organ, a fine grand piano acquired in 2012 (and a spare grand piano to boot!), and very clear acoustics which all contribute to making our music so enjoyable.  One visiting ensemble told us they preferred our acoustic to that of the Purcell Room where they had recently made their South Bank debut!
It is our belief that music should be accessible to all.  Whilst having our firmest foot planted at the classical end of the spectrum, we seek to offer a rich and varied programme, presenting live music in an interesting and rewarding manner so that it can be widely appreciated and enjoyed.
Check out our Programme and come along – you'll be assured of a very warm welcome, and we're sure you'll enjoy yourself.
